Everything about Hinder totally explained
Hinder is an
American band from
Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma that was formed in
2001 by drummer Cody Hanson, guitarist Joe 'Blower' Garvey, and Singer Austin Winkler. They released their first
EP titled "Far From Close" on an independent record label, Brickden Records. It sold about 5,000 copies. The three members then began working on new material in 2004 for their next independent release. These demos caught the attention of several major record labels.
History
Back in April of 2003, before making it big, Hinder entered the March Bandness contest for Clear Channel's 94.7 The Buzz in Oklahoma City. They made it to the Final Four out of a field of thrity-two, ultimately losing to the OKC group Falcon Five-O.
Hinder entered the rock scene with their debut single "
Get Stoned". The band then toured in support of their album, Extreme Behavior. The band's second single, "
Lips of an Angel", did far better on the charts, hitting #1 on several, and garnered international attention. "
Lips of an Angel" is now being covered by country artist
Jack Ingram. The band's third single from their debut album is "
How Long". The fourth single is "
Better Than Me" and the fifth is "Homecoming Queen."
Extreme Behavior: 2005-Present
After being offered record deals by Atlantic, Roadrunner, and Universal Records, Hinder signed with Universal records in 2005. Although
All Music Guide called
Extreme Behavior one of the year's worst albums, throughout 2005 the album was heavily anticipated, and Hinder won the monthly Launch "Who's Next" contest for emerging bands.
Brian Howes and
Mike Fraser produced album,
Extreme Behavior, was then set for release in the
United States. The single ""
Get Stoned" from
Extreme Behavior was also released on
iTunes as a free Single of the Week in August 2005.
"Extreme Behavior" track "Shoulda" was originally written and recorded by Canadian band
Social Code for their "A Year At The Movies" album, but was scrapped when finalising the album. The song was brought to Hinder by Universal when trying to finish up their album. They re-wrote portions of the songs to fit their sound and style and decided to use it on the album.
As a Christmas gift to the
Hinder Army, the fanclub, Hinder recorded "A Little Drummer Boy" and released it to the members of the Hinder Army, through http://www.thehinderarmy.com
In October of 2007, Hinder released their limited edition cd/dvd of Extreme Behavior entitled "You Can't Make This Sh*t Up".
In 2007, Hinder received Oklahoma's Rising Star Award.
Take it to the Limit
Announced on their tour and in several interviews, a new album is in the works, with a song titled "Thing for You," which was performed at their July 14th show in Chesaning, Michigan, along with a cover of the
Steppenwolf song "
Born to Be Wild." They played the song "Running in the Rain," which was cut from the US release of "Extreme Behavior," and they also played the new song called "Heaven Lost You".
According to an interview on the website Ultimate-Guitar, Hinder are expected to return to the studio to record their new album in January 2008.
Hinder is now (April 2008) recording their new album and have finished with 6 of their songs. They plan to go on tour once they've completed their album. The band plans to release the first single from the upcoming album sometime in May.
It is now confirmed the band has titled their new album due Summer of 2008 as "Take it to the Limit".

Hinder, the Oklahoma dude-rock quintet, are making their new album in Vancouver, B.C.—but not in any place you’ll find in a guidebook. “We’re somewhere on the border between Cracktown and Herointown,” says singer Austin Winkler. “When we go out for a smoke, there’s hookers on the corner. And not the kind of hookers you want to be messing with.”
On the strength of their pro-adultery power ballad “Lips of an Angel,” the band’s first album sold more than 3 million copies—no thanks to the suits, of course. “The label guy didn’t even want ‘Lips’ on the record,” Winkler says. “We told him to f**k off. Now we’ve got nothing but green lights.” Sonically, they’re aiming for a rawer, more live sound, what Winkler calls “bigger and better.” Thematically, though, they’re sticking to the time-tested motif of girls, girls, girls. “‘Use Me’ is about a guy getting used by a chick, and he likes it,” he says. “‘One Last Kiss Goodbye’ is about a guy who’s leaving his girl because she’s been banging another dude behind his back the whole time. And ‘Take It to the Limit,’ which we’re trying to get Mick Mars to play on, is kind of AC/DC, but a little more melodic—one of those could-be-about-a-girl-or-could-be-about-a-car songs. If NASCAR doesn’t end up using it, they’re stupid.”
The guys are finding plenty of ways to blow off steam in the Great White North—local nightclub the Roxy is a particular favorite—but Winkler isn’t confining his partying to the evening hours. “I actually like to get a little annihilated when I record,” he says. “Get loose, let it all hang out. It’s a pretty good excuse to get slaughtered at 3 P.M. Like, ‘Dudes, I’m working here!’”
